Anxiety disorders are the most common type of behavioral health disorders, affecting up to 30% of adults at some point in their lives. Identified anxiety disorders include: separation anxiety, selective mutism, specific phobia, social anxiety, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), agoraphobia, substance and medication-induced anxiety, anxiety disorder secondary to other medical conditions, or unspecified anxiety disorders. The National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center has a clear mission to scientifically research and advance the public understanding of the impact on victims exposed to crime and traumatic events. Through that research, education, treatment and collaboration the NCVRTC works to improve the mental health of victims, and prevent crimes from happening in the first place.
