We’re committed to upholding the highest standards of care for your little one, and we have the designation to prove it! Enabling rooming in with your baby and breastfeeding within one hour of birth are just a few aspects of this important initiative by the World Health Organization and UNICEF.
Whether you’re having your first baby, your preteen has questions about her changing body, or you want to explore ways to correct incontinence, you’ll be in good hands! We believe that every woman matters and good ob/gyn care at all stages of life brings a better quality of life. From our basic gynecologic services to our Advanced Fetal Care Center, we offer a vast array of specialists to serve your needs. MUSC, as an academic medical institution, believes in translating the latest in research and clinical advances to our patients. It’s part of why we’re recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a high-performing gynecology hospital.
Many women have concerns about PMS, HPV, menopause, night sweats, hot flashes, pelvic pain, fibroids, endometriosis, sexually transmitted diseases, and other gynecological issues. Our physicians can help you find relief and improve your quality of life. Our services range from routine screenings to more specialized procedures such as NovaSure. Comprehensive breast care is available, including 3-D mammograms, specialized diagnostics, and genetic counseling. We also specialize in treating women who have been sexually assaulted.
Worried about frequent UTIs, leaking when sneezing or laughing, or feeling pressure "down there"? Our urogynecologists offer comprehensive treatment for all types of urinary incontinence, ranging from physical therapy to complex surgical management. We also provide a range of options to treat your pelvic problems, whether that means conservative therapy or complex reconstruction.
Family planning and birth control are an essential part of many women’s lives, and our ob/gyn doctors and nurses can help you select the best method in our contraceptive and family planning clinic. In addition to birth control pills, we offer copper and Mirena IUDs, the Essure procedure, and Implanon. We also help with pregnancy issues including the medical management of miscarriage and pregnancy termination in the first and second trimester for fetal anomalies, fetal demise, or the mother’s safety.
Infertility can be heartbreaking. Our ob/gyn specialists can help identify causes of infertility, allowing our knowledgeable, compassionate physicians to develop the best plan for each woman. We are here to help you overcome recurrent pregnancy loss, premature ovarian failure, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), uterine abnormalities, and abnormal reproductive hormone issues. Possible treatments include fertility drugs, ovulation induction, intrauterine insemination, and in vitro fertilization.
Our advanced diagnostics, treatment and management are a source of hope and healing for thousands of women with cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar cancer. In addition, our doctors treat advanced gynecologic diseases including precancerous conditions, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and placental abnormalities. Ranked as a top hospital for the treatment of gynecologic disorders, our MUSC Hollings Cancer Center program offers access to the only female gynecologic oncologists in the state, nationally renowned radiation oncologists, gynecologic pathologists, and the most comprehensive gynecologic cancer research and clinical trials program in South Carolina.
Our compassionate ob/gyn doctors and midwives are here to help you have a healthy pregnancy and delivery. We offer 3-D and 4-D ultrasounds and genetic counseling. If you have complications during pregnancy, we have Maternal Fetal Medicine doctors and pediatric specialty services as part of our Advanced Fetal Care Center. Our delivery and mother-baby suite is Baby-Friendly-designated. We also help mothers who previously have had to have cesarean sections experience a vaginal birth if it’s medically safe with their next child.
This new way to experience prenatal care allows you to save time while giving you more time with your provider. CenteringPregnancy group prenatal care can start after your first prenatal visit. Join 8 to 10 other women to talk about important topics related to each stage of pregnancy while developing a support group with other expectant mothers. Groups are led by our nurse midwives or ob/gyn doctors. Group members receive all of the typical pregnancy health evaluations and have the chance to address concerns in private.
Finding out that your baby may have an anomaly during pregnancy can be difficult. At the MUSC Advanced Fetal Care Center, we are dedicated to providing you with the best pediatric specialists, all in one place. Our fetal care coordinator will set you up with the right experts to ensure your baby gets the best care. The issues we treat include congenital heart disease, diaphragmatic hernia, pulmonary airway malformation, gastroschisis, omphalocele, neural tube defects, urinary tract obstruction, cleft lip or palate, and clubfoot.
We believe that any milk a mother can provide for her new baby is precious, so our goal is to support, educate, and help you meet your breastfeeding goals. We have international board certified lactation consultants (IBCLC) on staff to help you get off to the best start. If your baby is unable to breastfeed, we will help you use a breast pump to develop a full milk supply until he or she is ready. We are proud to be a Baby-Friendly-designated hospital.
Our Maternal Fetal Medicine doctors provide specialized care for women with high-risk pregnancies. They are trained to handle a wide variety of complex maternal-fetal conditions and will partner with you to keep both you and your baby as healthy as possible throughout your pregnancy and delivery. We offer advanced ultrasound, fetal MRI, genetic counseling, nutrition counseling, and psychiatric services. We also staff our Advanced Fetal Care Center to partner with our MUSC Children’s Health pediatric subspecialists to create a pre- and post-delivery care plan for you and your baby.
The weeks before and after birth can be a critical period for parents and their baby. We want to help you have the best experience possible, so we offer evening and weekend classes in childbirth education, newborn care, breastfeeding, and infant CPR. Classes are taught by our nurses and lactation consultants. We also offer tours of the MUSC Health Birthing Suite. Schedule your class today.
Our Maternal Fetal Telehealth program offers specialty care to women who have high-risk pregnancies, regardless of where they live. This is especially important in rural South Carolina, where a number of counties have too few or no obstetrical providers. Our telehealth program pairs our Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists with local providers to manage the care of women with high-risk pregnancies using secure video technology. It protects the patient’s privacy while allowing real-time conversations. We believe all women and their newborns deserve a chance to have the best possible outcome.
We meet the health needs of each woman at that specific moment – whether she's a 13-year-old with questions about her changing body, a 30-year-old professional having her first baby, or a 62-year-old grandmother with recurrent cancer in need of breakthrough research – and every woman in between.
