These are complications that can occur during a hospital stay or after a surgery, such as blood clots or having to stay on a breathing machine for a long period of time. MUSC strives to take the best care of our patients using the best evidence-based practices and technology available to reduce the risk of these occurring. A ratio below 1.0 means that our rate is better than expected.
These are measured by the number of complications that occur, compared to the number that are expected to occur (based on the types of patients that are in the hospital).
MUSC providers are very careful to give our patients the best care possible to avoid any of these complications. If they do occur, we have good ways to detect them early, and provide the best treatment possible.
