Hand Hygiene

Why we measure this

MUSC expects all caregivers to wash their hands before and after they see a patient to reduce the spread of infections. MUSC measures hand washing in the hospital and in the clinics, and works very hard to ensure all of our patients are presented with clean hands.

How we measure this

Surveyors watch our providers interaction with patients and measure how often they wash their hands. In the clinics, we also ask our patients if their providers washed their hands before and after seeing them.

What we do to improve

All MUSC providers are expected to wash their hands every time they have a patient interaction. We remind each other to wash our hands, and welcome patients to do the same.
