Dr. Warren is a Board Certified Radiation Oncologist and the Vice Chairman for Research in the Department of Radiation Oncology. His primary clinical emphasis is in the treatment of gastrointestinal and thoracic malignancies. He is also the Director of the Tobacco Assessment and Cessation Service at the Hollings Cancer Center where he leads efforts to improve access to tobacco cessation support for cancer patients. He is a former Panel Member for the Esophageal and Gastric Cancer Committee for the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) and currently serves on the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Tobacco Control Subcommittee, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Cancer Prevention Committee and Tobacco Control Subcommittee, and the Cancer Prevention Committee for the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology Cooperative Group (formerly CALGB, NCCTG, and ACOSOG).

As the Vice Chairman for Research, he helps coordinate research activities within the Department of Radiation Oncology to support integration of existing research trials as well as to facilitate investigator initiated research projects. His primary research interest is includes understanding the effects of tobacco and tobacco related products on outcomes in cancer patients, testing the effects of effect modifiers (sensitizers and protectors) for chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy in cancer cells and in normal tissues, and improving methods to automate and optimize data collection that can be used for clinical decision making as well as research.
