Biography

Dr. Walton graduated magna cum laude from North Carolina State University with a BS degree in zoology. There he was awarded an ROTC scholarship and received the Daughters of the American Revolution gold medal for academic excellence. After attending the Medical University of SC, he entered the US Army and served for seven years as a flight surgeon and anesthesiologist. Following residency at MUSC, he finished his final tour with the US Army and then entered private practice in Myrtle Beach, SC. The cardiac surgical program in Myrtle Beach was jointly organized by Dr. Walton and the Cardiac Surgical Department at MUSC. This program remains highly successful to the present day.

He returned to MUSC in 1998 and has since that time devoted his energy and attention to pediatric and pediatric cardiac anesthesia.

He has been named one of “America’s Best Doctors” for the past 4 years. He has served as medical director for all the operating rooms. Currently he is the section head for pediatric cardiac anesthesiology and the chairman of the clinical competency committee.
