Dr. Mario Serafini joined the faculty under the Department of Anesthesiology at MUSC in 2017. He received his doctorate in osteopathic medicine from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency in anesthesiology at West Virginia University, followed by a fellowship in chronic pain management. After completing his training, Dr. Serafini spent several years in private practice of pain management before pursuing a career in academic medicine.

Dr. Serafini enjoys serving in a variety of roles for medical students, anesthesia residents, and pain fellow education, while practicing general anesthesia, acute pain, regional, and chronic pain management. Dr. Serafini’s clinical interest and passion is cancer pain management and he recently completed a fellowship in palliative medicine with the goal of bringing these two specialties together to serve this patient population. He is very excited for the professional opportunities MUSC will provide and starting his new life in South Carolina.
