Biography

Dr. George Baker graduated from the University of Michigan. He then attended Albany Medical College in upstate New York. Following medical school, he came to Charleston in 2001. Here at MUSC he completed his pediatric residency in 2004. He then completed his pediatric cardiology fellowship in 2007 and interventional cardiology training in 2008. In 2008 he became a member of the faculty in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology.

His main area of focus is interventional cardiology. Interventional cardiology involves treating congenital heart disease through minimally invasive procedures using catheters. Many of these heart conditions once required open heart surgery. Typical procedures include closing holes in the heart, stenting narrowed blood vessels, and even implantation of heart valves.

His research interests include new interventional cardiac devices. He also performs state-of -the-art measurement of heart function and has numerous peer-reviewed publications. He enjoys teaching in a wide variety of settings, especially the heart catheterization lab where he spends most of his clinical time.
