Participant Initiated Activities
PINRA (Participant Initiated Non-RID Activities)
Participation in classes, workshops, and conferences that are not sponsored directly by a RID entity or organization may be viable educational activities for an interpreter.
Step One: Choose the activity/conference you want to attend. The activity/conference does not have to pertain strictly to interpreting. It can be a regional or national conference of another profession or could be a formal in-service training by an employer. As long as the activity is educationally beneficial to you as an interpreter, it can earn CEUs for you!
Step Two: Collect any pertinent documentation about the activity such as flyers, agendas, program book, educational objectives, descriptions, and schedules. Make a copy for your records, then submit them, along with a completed PINRA form to MUSC.
Step Three: MUSC will advise you of the status (approved/not approved). If approved, MUSC will provide you with a signed approval, and information to complete your request, submit payment and submit your final reporting documents.
Documentation must be submitted to be approved by MUSC at least two weeks BEFORE the activity begins!
Step Four: Upon completion of the activity, attain a certificate of attendance and/or proof of attendance including the number of hours. Follow the instructions provided to you with your PINRA approval for submitting required documentation, and/or contact MUSC for help in finalizing your PINRA CEU award.
NOTE: Documentation must be submitted to MUSC within 10 days of completing the activity. Processing the CEUs by sponsors and the national office may take up to 60 days once all documents are received.
