Volunteer Services at MUSC

We accept and place Volunteers for the Adult Program quarterly

Learn about the following programs.

Candy Stripers

Provide positive, energetic students who are possibly interested in healthcare with an environment and an opportunity to learn, help others, build friendships, and give back.

Coastal Connections

Coastal Connections is a free, volunteer-based program that connects qualified patients in MUSC hospitals and clinics to local resources.

Safe Sitter Program

For adolescents between the ages of 11 and 14, this program teaches sitters the skills they need to be successful babysitters from the start! 

Pet Therapy Program

Dogs and their handlers are available to visit patients various times during the week.

Volunteer Greeters

Volunteer Greeters

We need volunteers to greet and welcome patients to MUSC.  We have this availability at our multiple information desks within our downtown campus and our East Cooper facility in Mt. Pleasant. 





Volunteer Sitters

Volunteers are needed to help with patient observation for our Neurology Department.

Applications will be accepted the following dates:

December 15, 2014 - January 26, 2015

Upcoming Orientations Dates:

February 3, 2015  1:00-4:00 pm & February 4, 2015 10:00am- 1:00pm

Volunteer Requirements

Our Application Process

Applications are now being accepted. We spend a lot of time developing the new volunteer and therefore, we only bring on new volunteers during certain times of the year. See application acceptance dates and orientation dates above. Upon receipt of your application, you should be contacted with in 5 to 7 days. Acceptance into the program is contingent upon the completion of our on-boarding requirements. 

Please note that our program does not provide the opportunity to shadow physicians, nurses, or other health care providers, nor do we allow volunteers to perform any sort of medical procedures. Get more information on Shadow opportunities.

We provide volunteers training and ongoing support. New volunteers are required to complete general orientation. In addition to your overall orientation you will receive an orientation and training in your particular area of service. 

Our Volunteers

Commit to a minimum of one 3–4 hour shift per week on the same day at the same time

Fulfill a minimum of 100 volunteer hours per year

Recovery and Trauma must be at least age 21, and have HEP-B documentation

Prospective volunteers must complete a health screening, background check, and formal orientation to MUSC's policies and procedures, as well as orientation to the assigned unit

Completed application, Criminal background check, Interview, Pre-Placement Health screening, General Orientation,Orientation to selected volunteer area
