Our fellowship-trained primary care sports medicine and non-operative orthopaedic physicians specialize in the expert evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, concussion management, and the full spectrum of general medical conditions that may impact athletic performance. Our primary care sports medicine physicians use biologics, ultrasound-guided injections, and non-invasive procedures to provide expert non-operative care to athletes of all ages and levels. With a commitment to evidence-based non-operative treatment and athlete-centered care, our team will support you in a safe and timely return to sports and an active lifestyle.
Our sports medicine concussion management team is comprised of primary care sports medicine physicians who collaborate directly with neurologists and the state's only multidisciplinary pediatric concussion clinic. Our team provides comprehensive, evidence-based care for athletes who have sustained a concussion or are experiencing symptoms after a head injury. We specialize in accurate diagnosis, individualized treatment plans, and safe return-to-play guidance rooted in the latest sports medicine consensus guidelines.
Our athletic trainers are the frontline providers for our sports medicine team, delivering immediate, expert care where athletes need it most – on the field, court, or sideline. Our athletic trainers provide on-site assessment and treatment for acute and chronic sports-related injuries and ailments. They are closely intertwined with our medical team, providing concierge-level care coordination for athletes. Working closely with our sports medicine physicians and physical therapists, our athletic trainers play a critical role throughout the entire continuum of an athlete’s care. Combining clinical expertise with a deep understanding of each sport's demands, MUSC Health’s athletic trainers help athletes stay healthy, return from injuries, and perform at their highest level.
Our sports medicine physical therapy team is dedicated to restoring the strength, mobility, stamina, agility, and stability athletes need to return safely and confidently to their pre-injury level of performance. Our physical therapists work closely with sports medicine physicians, orthopaedic surgeons, athletic trainers, and other healthcare professionals to create evidence-based treatment plans and realistic recovery goals. This collaborative approach ensures that every athlete receives a rehabilitation program that supports optimal healing, reduces the risk of reinjury, and enhances performance. Through targeted therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, sport-specific conditioning, and return-to-play testing, our team helps athletes rebuild confidence and achieve a safe, successful transition back to full activity and sport participation.
MUSC Health Sports Medicine offers state-of-the-art musculoskeletal imaging, expert interpretation, and comprehensive consultation using advanced technologies, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), and ultrasound.
